Get your kids riding on two wheels without training wheels!

It is still not too late to learn to ride on two wheels. CHCDP is offering a bike event in this year before the winter comes.

Learn to Ride with 2 Wheels— is a free group workshop for children who are ready to bury their training wheels and ride a two-wheelers for the first time. Through a safe, easy, effective methods, Ralph Fernandez,

a gold medalist at the World Deaf Cycling Championship and silver and bronze medalist at the Deaflympic, is delighted to teach the parents and kids how to ride with two wheels. Ralph has a plenty of tips and tricks for the parents who soon will be outstanding coaches for their kids!

Come along and show the brave kids to ride on their own!

Who: Parents, kids and friends.

Where: Closed road on Beach Drive between #5 and #4 at the Rock Creek Park*

When: Saturday, October 13, 2012

Time: 10 AM to Noon

What: Bring bikes, tools to remove the training wheels, helmet (required), kids’ snacks and drinks for your family.

Meet at the Parking area #6.

You are welcome to gather for a picnic at the rest area in Rock Creek Park.

*Sections of Beach Drive to the DC line are closed on Saturdays, Sundays (7:00 AM Saturday-7:00 PM Sunday), and holidays for bikers, roller bladers, hikers and joggers (On the map they are marked in faint yellow).

WHAT: Bring bikes, tools to remove the training wheels, helmet (required) and snacks/lunch/drinks for your family

I have good news! The DC State Fair will be held on Capitol Hill this year and will offer ASL interpreters! That means any information table with LiveGreen DC, Kid Power DC, 4-H, and others will have interpreters available. They will also interpret for announcements of the winners of the Best Pie, Best Cupcake, Kids’ Art, and other contests! We warmly invite CHCDP members to join us at the Fair.

We bet that your kids would love to pick a pumpkin, get a ride in a wagon full of hay, or feed and pet farm animals. Who doesn’t love fall seasons? There are fall festivals held in a variety of places throughout Maryland and Virginia. Here are some best pumpkin patches in the Washington Metro area.

 

MARYLAND

Agricultural History Farm Park

2012 Date to Be Announced, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This Montgomery County facility hosts one of the largest harvest festivals in the area. Activities include hayrides, scarecrow making, farm demonstrations, crafts, hay maze, live entertainment and more.

Everyone gets a small patch pumpkin to take home free with paid admission. New spaceship, mining sluice and mechanical bull this year.

Mount Vernon Fall Harvest Family Days

October 27 – 28, 2012, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit George Washington’s estate and enjoy autumn activities including horse-drawn wagon rides, wheat treading in the 16-sided barn, a straw bale maze, early-American games, music and demonstrations. This is a huge fall festival with traditional harvest activities, but no pumpkins.

Ticonderoga Farms
